Preface
- There are many " russkie " NOS tubes on the
market ( at least here in Europe ), more than one could
suspect. Rebranded with wide variety of cool sounding
names I see them from time to time in guitar and Hi-Fi
amps, in old radios and in shops of course. Most popular
ones are 6H1P ( 6N1P ), 6H2P ( 6N2P ), 6H23P
( 6N23P ), 6P14P ( 6P14P ) and 6P3C
( 6P3C ).
- 6N1P - Normally comes relabeled as
ECC81, 6DJ8, ECC88 or E88CC. Will work in many circuits,
but take care.
- Original data can be found here.
- 6N2P - Normally comes relabeled as
ECC83. Will work in many circuits.
- Original data can be found here.
- 6N23P - Normally comes relabeled as
6DJ8, ECC88 or E88CC. It IS E88CC / 6922
- Original data can be found here.
- 6P14P - Normally comes relabeled as
EL84. It is EL84. Very nice sounding tube but
definetively don't like high plate voltage.
- Don't try to force them for more than 10W power in class
AB push - pull.
- 6P3C - Normally comes relabeled as 6L6G
and it is 6L6G. Great sounding tube, but has a little bit
less plate dissipation.
-
Russian Encoding System
- There was no problem till 1956 - most of tubes was
encoded using American system, so 2C4C was 2A3, 6C4C was
6B4G, 6pi6C was 6V6 etc. In 1956 new system was adopted
and only cyrilic letters was used. Here is brief
description of "new" system:
-
- FIRST ELEMENT
- For receiving tubes - digit that indicates aprox.
filament voltage
- For picture tubes - digit that indicates diameter or
diagonal of screen
- For transmitting tubes - GU, GK,GC, GI, GM or GMI
-
- SECOND ELEMENT

- Special Quality
tubes use letters E or B
( or both ) after fourth element.
- E for long - lived ( up to 5000 hours
and more ) tubes
- B for mechanicaly improved tubes
- All Russian tubes
have factory logo and date of production ( month / year )
engraved on glass and ink stamped quality control number
( OTK )

6N1P / 6N2P How to use them
6N1P and 6N2P was / are the most popular small signal twin
triodes in Russian audio. They was thought as 9 pin replacements
for octal 6H8C ( 6SN7 GT ) and 6H9C ( 6SL7 GT ) respectively.
Both have built - in shield. Great tubes with great sound. Still
in production in Russia.
- In the following notes a number of typical circuits in
which both 6N1P and 6N2P can be employed as amplifier and
fase inverter are described.
- fig1 shows standard line stage
amplifier. You can obtain aprox. 9V ( 12V for 6N2P )
output with THD less than 0,1%
- Aprox. gain will be 20 - 25 ( 50 for 6N2P )
- fig2, fig3 and fig4
show standard fase inverters. Aprox gain is 60 for fig2
and 30 for fig3
