Line No. 5 The commercial generation, transmission and utilization of alternating current using the Tesla/Westinghouse system began 100 years ago on April 20, 1895 with power from Niagara Falls being supplied to the nearby town of Niagara, New York. It would take an additional one and a half years before General Electric completed the 26 mile long transmission line to Buffalo which on November 6, 1896 truly heralded in the present age of ELECTRIC POWER.
