Statement Of Intent

The goal of Lightning On Demand is to expand upon the present state-of-the-art in artificial lightning generation, by using new technologies to design larger, more reliable and more interesting versions of what is now practical.

In 1996, Lightning On Demand (LOD) was originally conceived by Greg Leyh as a means for designing and constructing a large-scale experimental lightning research facility, capable of generating 300ft lightning discharges with current intensities equivalent to those found in nature. This facility would provide a platform for scientific and commercial research into the effects of natural lightning phenomena, and operate as an educational attraction for the general public. A conceptual design report for this project is now complete, and at present we are seeking funding from serious individuals and collaborating agencies.

Aside from the lightning research facility developmental work, LOD has produced a number of other high voltage pulse power systems along the way, for uses that range from scientifically defendable experiments to museum exhibits and performance art applications.

With production shops and test facility at the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco, LOD has the actual capability for large-scale R&D efforts, such as the four-story tall Electrum Project, which is now in the final stages of testing.
