The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the
U.S Department of Commerce, forecasts the Nation's
weather, warns the public of impending severe weather and
flooding, predicts climate change,
protects endangered ocean species, and conducts scientific research to
understand and preserve the environment.
To achieve its mission, NOAA has developed a strategy that consists
of seven inter-related strategic goals. These are:
Environmental Assessment and Prediction
Short Term Warnings and Forecasts
Implement Seasonal to Interannual Climate Forecasts
Predict and Assess Decadal-to-Centennial Climate Change
Promote Safe Navigation
Environmental Stewardship
Build Sustainable Fisheries
Recover Protected Species
Sustain Healthy Coasts
In support of its mission and strategic goals, NOAA offers a
wealth of web resources. As of August, 1997, The NOAA Web Sites has links to over
500 NOAA web pages - and the number keeps growing!
