------------------------------ From: redfreak@ecn.purdue.edu (Thomas Lobonc) Subject: Follow up on Sovtek 6550's Date: Thu, 23 Jun 1994 21:25:47 GMT I don't have the ability to post or reply to messages on Usenet so feel free to pass along the above information on r.a.h-e if you choose. I have been told that the problem with the Sovtek 6550's is that they draw an unusually high idle current, which could account for your problem. I know that ARC is aware of that and they can sellect tubes from their stock which will work in your amp. Their Sovteks come directly from the factory, by the way, and are hand selected. They are also retested at their plant and sorted. I don't know if the D-70 uses an ultralinear configuration but I was told by Ned at Triode that Sovetek's are not recommended for this type. He would recommend the GE's in this case. I trust his judgement, and agree with your assessment of Triode's service, also. They are real good to do business with. I have no connection with Triode' by the way, except as a satisfied customer. My only connection with ARC is that I know a number of the people who work there (they're in my neighborhood). I'm not even a customer - I don't have any of their equipment. Gene Lyle "lyle@bonnie.rcdp.gov" Somebody else reported the same problem with Sovtek 6L6GC's. Tom
