Good observation!
Just a little aside: My father, Albert J. Dauray, was the owner of Ampeg
in the late '60's-early '70's until he (sob) sold it to Magnavox. The
SVT came out during his reign. I unfortunately was too little and Dad is
NOT technical in any way, so despite this "pedigree" I really know
nothing about guitar amps. But, it was one of his engineers, Roger Cox
now a pretty big cheese at Fender who I contacted in 1989 looking for a
job when I took a break from college who introduced me to David Manley.
I took that job with David and look what happened-- I married him!
Thank you Ampeg!

Yeah, "good sounding" has totally different meaning and parameters
between guitar amps and hi-fi amps. There seems to be no crossover.

I am a huge fan of Ampeg in general and the SVT in particular...I have one
myself. The best bass amp ever made. For all you out there that are unfamiliar
the SVT runs 6 6550's and produces 350 watts of all tube, clean bass power.

Ampeg is now owned by Saint Louis Music and they are working (sucessfully) to
regain the glory they had when your dad was at the helm...
