Several instructors in the field find this module to be at too high a level for their students—especially the mathematics. They counsel that a teacher should page through the module carefully and then assess the academic level of their students before tackling the module. Several suggest that the module be covered for its concepts only, ignoring the associated mathematics. Others recommend a complete rewrite with a substantial reduction in rigorous mathematics. Those who teach this module often do so in a very abbreviated manner. Essentially they cover only the material contained in paragraphs 66-80, wherein the properties of various non-linear materials are summarized.
