EZ555 calculates component values, duty cycle, and frequency for an astable oscillator built using the popular type 555 bipolar integrated-circuit timer. The program checks for sensible component and timing values and offers a warning when conditions are violated. Adequate documentation is included, but the 555's foibles (e.g., a too-long first pulse at startup, and internal circuit differences among different manufacturers' versions) and upper frequency limit aren't mentioned. Also, achieving timing periods of hours using the 555 is difficult at best. Overall, though, EZ555 earns its place on designers' PCs. This is a minor update.
