BICRON A DIVISION OF SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIAL CERAMICS, INC AND INNOVA ELECTRONICS INC, ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE TO PROVIDE INTEGRATED GAMMA TOOL MODULE FOR OIL WELL LOGGING APPLICATIONS

Houston, Texas - May 4, 1998. Integrated Detector Solutions is the name chosen by Bicron and Innova Electronics Inc. for their new strategic alliance, which will offer complete gamma-detection modules for oil well applications. These modules will unite Bicron's ruggedized scintillation detectors with Innova's high-temperature electronics to provide complete nuclear measurement solutions for geophysical applications.

Bicron is the leading supplier of scintillation detectors to the geophysical, nuclear medicine, industrial and physics markets. Located in Newbury, Ohio, it is a wholly-owned unit of Saint-Gobain Industrial Ceramics, Inc. Bicron has been supplying gamma ray detectors to the oil-logging industry for more than twenty years. These detectors have been expressly designed for the demanding measurement-while-drilling (MWD) environment where the conditions can reach 1000g shock and 175°C temperatures.

Since 1989, INNOVA Electronics has been designing and manufacturing ruggedized electronics for clients in the aerospace, industrial, and oil service industries. Operating under conditions of extreme shock and vibration, and at temperatures as high as 200°C, these systems have established INNOVA’s reputation for reliable electronics that survive in some of the world's most hostile operating environments. Innova’s engineering expertise includes multiple output high and low voltage supplies, downhole sensors & sensor electronics and microprocessor & microcontroller based acquisition systems.

Phil Corvo, General Manager of Bicron’s Scintillation Division commented "Our two companies have complementary skills. This alliance gives our customers a single supplier of integrated detector modules, designed, manufactured and tested as a system. We believe this will result in superior gamma measurement solutions."

Trey Cook, President and CEO of Innova Electronics said, "Higher levels of system integration are a new market requirement. Our combined resources provide a complete, commercial-ready detector solution. IDS will reduce our customers time to market while providing exceptional quality and reliability."
