In January this year (1995) a successful attempt was made to connect two standard office telefax machines via 2 meter ham radio (at 2400 bps). So far I have not heard of any radio amateur experimenting with Group-3 telefax. So I guess this was a "first". For amateurs interested in using their fax or fax modem on the VHF/UHF bands, here is a description of the schematic diagram (Faxif.gif). It is not really complicated. As telefax operates in half-duplex mode, the only thing the interface has to do is separate the in and outgoing signals in interfaces for the transceiver speaker and mike. If your transceiver has no build -in VOX, the PTT-function (push to talk) has to be supplied by the fax interface. All together, I built my experimental design for about $10,-. For more info, you could download the file Presfax.ppt, a Dutch presentation about the interface and telefax technical backgrounds. I can translate the slides if there is a demand for it. I'm interested in your results, Best regards, Reinier van der Lee, PA3DJM, Vienna Internet: rvdlee@austria.ds.philips.com Compuserv: 100730,3055
