Die gelisteten Teile sind bei mir als Teile-Satz erhaeltlich.

Zusaetzlich brauchen Sie ca. 10 Meter isolierten Draht fuer die Antenne und Draht zum Anschluss an die Erde. (Nicht im Lieferumfang).

Construction plan

Hints: You have to assemble the delivered parts yourself. You should be able to solder. Also You should be able to understand the wiring diagram (schematic) and the building plan. Soldering iron, soldering tin and tools aren't included in the set of parts. The holes in the case are already drilled. Crystal receiver reception during daylite is only possible to a distance of about 30 miles. Reception of up to 60-750 miles is possible at night (and more!). Please, consider that the loudness (volume) of the crystal receiver is low. Polarity of the components is not important.

Coil: The delivered coil is a compact coil with iron powder core. With the iron powder core the reception range can be adjusted. Adjust so that your local station lies in the middle of the tuning range. The ground side of the coil has a thick connection wire. 1 = "hot" pin of coil, 2 = ground pin.

Diode: Don't shorten the wire of the diode! Do not overheat the diode during soldering. Prevent that the diode gets too hot when soldering.

Crystal phone: In case the audio in the phone is interupted, tapping against the phone lightly should restore operation.

Capacitor 82 pF and 47 pF: You can remove the 82 pF capacitor and bridge with a wire. The audio volume becomes louder. But the frequency range becomes smaller (appr. 550 -1200 KHz). The selectivity is also not so good. Best antenna length except capacitor appr. 15 feet.

With the both sockets you can match different antennas (25 to 90 feet.)

Antenna, ground: Keep the antenna wire away from power lines. Don´t connect parts of the crystal receiver with the power line. You can connect the ground connection to the faucet or the central heating (electical conducting spot). Place the antenna freely in the room or outside the house. When you change the antenna socket, you can match better the lower frquency range or the upper frequency range of the b.c. band.

Warning: Outside the house: Absolutely disconnect and remove this antenna in case of coming thunderstorm!

Reception report: I have received at 09/21/2000 10.00 pm in Berlin, Germany the following broadcast stations with the "Gollum´s Crystal Receiver" (I use only a 25 feet outdoor antenna and a central heating ground. Antenna 9 feet above ground.):

Konstruktionsplan

Hinweise: Die gelieferten Teile muessen von Ihnen zusammengebaut werden. Sie muessen sich mit Loeten auskennen. Das obige Schaltbild und der unten gezeigte Bauplan muss von Ihnen verstanden werden. Loetkolben, Loetzinn und Werkzeug sind nicht im Teilesatz enthalten. Die Loecher des Gehaeuses sind schon gebohrt. Detektor-Empfang ist am Tage nur moeglich, wenn Sie innerhalb von ca. 50 Km einen MW-Rundfunk-Sender haben. Nachts ist Empfang bis zu 100-1200 Km moeglich (und mehr). Bedenken Sie bitte, dass die Lautstaerke des Detektors gering ist. Eine Polaritaet der Bauteile braucht nicht beachtet werden.

Spule: Die gelieferte Spule ist eine kompakte Spule mit Eisen-Kern. Mit dem Eisenkern kann der Empfangsbereich abgeglichen werden. Gleichen Sie so ab, dass Ihr Ortssender gut im Abstimmbereich des Abstimm-Kondensators liegt. Die Masse-Seite (Ground) der Spule hat einen dicken Anschluss-Draht. 1= "heisse" Seite der Spule, 2 = Masse-Seite

Diode: Kuerzen Sie nicht den Draht der Diode! Verhindern Sie, dass die Diode beim Loeten zu heiss wird.

Kristallhoerer: Sollte der Kopfhoerer aussetzen, kurz gegen den Hoerer klopfen.

Kondensator 82 pF und 47 pF: Sie koennen den 82 pf Kondensator weglassen und durch einen Draht ersetzen. Dann ist der Empfang lautstaerker. Allerdings wird der Abstimm-Bereich des Detektors geringer (ca 550 -1200 KHz). Die Selektivitaet geht auch zurueck. Beste Antennenlaenge ohne Kondensator ca. 5 Meter.

Mit den beiden Buchsen koennen Sie unterschiedlich lange Antennen anpassen (10-30 Meter).

Antenne Erde: Bringen Sie den Antennendraht nicht in die Naehe von Stromleitungen. Verbinden Sie kein Teil des Empfaengers mit dem Stromnetz. Den Masse-Anschluss (Ground) koennen Sie mit dem Wasserhahn oder der Zentralheizung (metallisch leitende Stelle) verbinden. Die Antenne (antenna) verlegen Sie im frei im Zimmer oder ausserhalb des Hauses. Durch Wechslen der Antennenbuchse koennen Sie auch entweder den unteren Frequenzbereich oder den oberen Frequenzbereich besser anpassen.

Warnung: Aussen-Montage: Entfernen Sie diese Antenne unbedingt, wenn ein Gewitter kommt!

Empfangsbericht. Ich habe am 21.9.2000 um 22.00 Uhr Ortszeit in Berlin, Deutschland mit dem "Gollum Detektor" folgende Radio-Stationen empfangen (Ich benutze eine nur 8 Meter lange Aussen-Antenne ca 3 Meter ueber Grund und eine Erdung an der Zentral-Heizung.):
