A study of sounds in the
Atmosphere

This started with an excursion into Stephen P. McGreevy's site, resulting in an instant connection to the mysteries of sounds generated by the planet's atmosphere. Building the BBB-4 receiver was simple and getting it all to work was simpler, (details of mine HERE), having plenty of space around us in the North East of Holland, one could be assured of some interesting recordings. After all it is possible to see the Aurora Borialis here from time to time, so maybe we can hear it too!. Anyway, even having a good workshop and a lot of experience in the radio field, this intruiged me so here we are. So, please accept what comes up in the pages as such, it will take a while to learn something about this field.
In the meantime I spent a little time when I can and the weather permits, getting out into the landscape with the receiver and my cassette recorder to capture the days surprises. Being a rich area in space and wild life something happens every time. It's a nice way to spend some time out in fresh air!

Some Tweeks to get you going.... 28-08-98
17.30 Hrs, sunny, light wind.
I call these sounds 'whispers' actually 'Chorus' between
1.5- 4 KHz
30-08-98 sunrise.
Strong 3 second whistler in afternoon of 23-09-98.
also strong NAV reflections can be seen + some FSK? That
day produced similar whistlers at long intervals.
Same day in the evening, Tweeks and a
double Whistler. Note totally different situation from
previous recording.
23-09-98 @ 20:20 Hrs. Just after sunset.Suggested program for analysis GRAM. EXE ....
