You may choose to treat the dicsussion material presented under the topics Types of Tables–Methods of Fixture Attachment, Vibration Isolation, and Selecting the Correct Table, found in pages 21-29 of original Module 6-1, as a basis for a laboratory. One way to do this is to define four or five requirements a certain type of table must meet to accommodate a given application, and assign students the task of looking up the solution which table manufacturers offer to meet the specific requirements. Start your students with the criteria outlined under Selecting the Correct Table (See, for example, "Selecting an Optical Tabletop" in the Meller Ceriot Catalog).

Regarding the calculation in Example B: Deflection of an Optical Table, several teachers in the filed recommend that Equation 2 be reviewed in terms of the algebra involved. Also reveiw with students how to solve for S with a scientific calculator after the numerical values are substituted in Equation 2. It would also be appropriate to go through the unit conversions involved in the example.
